A new season is the perfect time to refresh your look, and the easiest way to do that is by adding some colour to your wardrobe. Whether you opt for a vibrant copper, a flash of forest green or timeless burgundy, some fresh colourful garments will instantly lift your wardrobe and open up a number of outfit opportunities.
Remember, just because it’s horribly grey outside doesn’t mean your outfit has to be as drab as the weather. Injecting some colour into your life will instantly brighten your mood and the mood of those around you. You will stand out from the crowd on that commute into work and who doesn’t want to make a statement with their outfit, even if you hate to admit it.
We all need a splash of colour and so for me it can be disappointing to walk into a menswear shop only to find out that the buyer has filled it with navy, navy and more navy, punctuated with the odd splash of… grey! Of course I love a bit of trusty navy, but there are certain days that just scream out for a bit of outfit expression and this is when it’s time to be a bit more creative.
Of course, not everyone can pull off a bright red suit, but most of us can benefit from a bit of colourful detail. A strong-coloured over-shirt can really set off a look, while socks are also a good option to inject colour into an outfit. Think about colourful accent pieces too: hats, gloves and scarves. The trick is not to be afraid of colour, but try not to overload on it either, find a level of colour that you’re comfortable with and a go-to tone that works for you. I’m rather obsessed with copper tones at the moment, they work well with the leaves that are falling around us and are the ideal sidekick for some darker toned knits, of which I have many!
In the dead of winter, when you’ve just got out of your bed and opened your curtains to find the sun has barely risen at all and everything outside morphs into grey, a splash of colour can lift your mood. I want to wear something that will brighten my day. You don’t have to become colour obsessed like me, but I recommend you make it part of your everyday life. Believe me, it will brighten yours too.
