Go Citrus This Summer, My Top Summer Scents

With Summer most definitely upon us, it’s time to up your scent game and reach for something fresh and zesty.

The warmer months may be the time to swap your specs for sunnies and your moisturiser for sun cream, but it’s also a great opportunity to invest in a new fresh fragrance, better suited to these warmer air temperatures.

While the heavier scents you’ve been rocking recently can become overpowering in the heat, switching to a lighter whiff feels crisp and refreshing and will better suit your shorts and boat shoes look.

Here are my top picks this Summer, all citrusy and fresh in their own way and the perfect sidekick to your Summer outfits!

Italian Zest – Ermenegildo Zegna Acqua Di Neroli

I was lucky enough to be sent an Ermenegildo Zegna fragrance late last year and I’ve been obsessed with their collection of punchy scents ever since.  This particular fragrance is the definition of Summer in a bottle, with a real Italian vibe.

Notes of bergamot and lemon give the fragrance zestiness and the inclusion of a whole load of neroli adds some floral notes to finish.  A scent ideal for warm evenings with friends or trips discovering the beauty of the Italian coastline.

*Pair this with a linen double breasted, brightly coloured chinos and a pair of suede loafers.

Linen Fresh – Chrome by Azzaro

Sometimes you just want a scent that’s ultra fresh and Chrome by Azzaro is exactly that.  With lemon, neroli and pineapple, initially it’s very citrusy and crisp.  The inclusion of jasmine and rosemary gives it this very fresh aftertaste, not dissimilar to the smell of freshly prepared linens.

A great everyday fragrance for warmer weather, I’ll be taking this with me on all my Summer trips.

*Pair this with a light blue linen shirt, sleeves rolled up and white chinos for the freshest of looks.

Amalfi Luxury – Tom Ford Neroli Portofino Forte

Tom Ford have long been a favourite and ‘go-to’ of mine for powerful fragrances.  Although higher on the pricing spectrum, I always find their scents to be long lasting and more powerful than most, meaning they will often last longer than your average EDT.

Neroli Portofino encompasses all that is a Summer holiday with bergamot, mandarin and lemon giving a real citrus top note and musk and amber bringing some warmth to the base notes.

This fragrance really reminds me of afternoons spent sailing around the Greek Islands and is a regular in my beach bag.  The ‘forte’ version has that extra punch to ensure you stand out from the crowd at pool parties this season.

*Pair with your Orlebar Brown swimmers and towelling polo for the ultimate resort outfit.

A Slice Of Tuscany – Acqua Di Parma Blu Mediterraneo – Cipresso di Toscana

A new discovery this season, Cipresso di Toscana from Acqua Di Parma is a stand out scent ideal for those looking to make a statement.  Launched back in 1999, this fragrance was actually discontinued until being revived for Summer 2018 and I have no doubt it deserves its comeback.

Top notes of lemon, basil and sage give this fragrance a very fresh and herby undertone and Cypress, a tree native to Tuscany, brings in some earthy woodiness and sense of clean air.

I’ll be saving this one for those special occasions, a day at the races or the polo, for the perfect head turner.

*Pair this fragrance with a stand out blazer, classic oxford shirt, pair of tailored trousers and monk-strap shoes for the definition of Summer smart casual.

A Timeless Classic – BOSS Bottled Tonic

BOSS Bottled is a timeless classic and a fragrance I’ve forever owned and worn.  The ‘Tonic’ version is much lighter than the original, ultra fresh and invigorating making it the ideal every day scent for Summer.  With grapefruit, bitter orange and apple, initially it’s very citrusy and with base notes of vetiver there is a real woody, earthiness that gradually comes through.

Another great all-rounder, stick this in your gym bag for the Summer months or for a fresh lunchtime spritz before meetings.

*Pair this scent with a classic white tee, navy chino shorts and a pair of Sperry boat shoes for the ultimate in dressed down comfort for the warmest of days.
