What defines the perfect summer scent? Crisp? Cool? Floral or citrusy? The right answer, as with most things as personal as a fragrance, is whatever works for you. As a general rule, though, the one you pick for the warmer months should be lighter than those heady, woody scents you spritz yourself with in the winter. And, of course, there’s no reason to restrict yourself to just the one.
I’ve always been a big fan of both citrus and woody notes and the summer months are the perfect time to combine the two for a fresh and warming fragrance to accompany your summer wardrobe.
Here’s three of my favourite warm-weather scents to help you prolong the summer vibes and bring warmth to your day no matter the occasion.
A balanced blend of zesty lemon and calming bergamot, Artisan Pure is a fantastic every day scent for the warmer months of the year. The citrus top notes warm down into a woody base with warming amber and musk and it’s an extremely well-priced addition to any summer fragrance wardrobe for those of you looking to make a statement on the beach this holiday season.
Wear This With – A crisp white tee shirt, chinos and trusty pair of boat shoes for the ultimate in summer smart casual.
Terre D’Hermes is a fragrance I’ve only recently discovered and it’s safe to say I’m obsessed. Timeless, yet fresh. Woody, yet zesty. This is the fragrance for you if you’re looking to stand out from the crowd this summer. With grapefruit and orange notes rendered more zesty by the cunning inclusion of shiso, a minty plant that enhances and amplifies the citrus. Woody base notes anchor the situation, providing earthy muscle to the fruitier aspects.
Look at investing in the EDP, it’s much more powerful and longer lasting, ultimately will last that bit longer in the bottle.
Wear This With – A colourful linen shirt, linen shorts and backless mules for the smartest of evening looks.
20 Iconic Masculine by Clive Christian is a scent that’s ideal for those of you looking for something a little different. Combining the citrus notes of mandarin and petitgrain with the spicy and woody notes of pink pepper and rosemary, this scent is quite simply unlike anything I’ve come across before and is a real conversation starter.
It may come with a rather hefty price tag, but this unique fragrance is well worth the investment. Just be sure to keep this one in reserve for those all important occasions for maximum impact.
Wear This With – A classic oxford shirt, tailored linen trousers and suede espadrilles for a laidback evening get up.
