Spice It Up This Autumn With These Transitional Scents

While there are no hard and fast rules in the world of personal scent, common sense generally calls for lighter, aquatic, and citrus notes in the warmer months, while louder, headier, or incense-type fragrances are more appropriately worn in the colder and shorter days of autumn and winter.  Fortunately, some of the best autumnal fragrances this year are a perfect combination of the two sides of the equation—good news for those of you who want the best of both worlds.

Here’s my favourites for the upcoming months as we transition into the new season:

Sauvage Parfum by Dior

A brand new launch from Dior, Sauvage Parfum is an ultra-concentrated upgrade on the original Eau De Parfum,  the best selling fragrance in the world for the past couple of years.  The signature scent is brightened up with a zesty, spicy mandarin and swirls of mellow tonka bean.  Sri Lankan sandalwood makes an appearance and takes the scent to another level of punchiness.

If you want something ‘fall-ish’ but not too woody, this is the scent for you and it gives off just the right amount of weight without feeling too thick or overpowering.

Wear This With –  A chunky cable-knit, turn-up denim jeans and leather kicks for the perfect laid-back autumn outfit.

Spice Blend by Maison Christian Dior

The combination of wood and floral is the name of the game this autumn and Spice Blend from Christian Dior is a new favourite of mine, with rum, ginger, black pepper and nutmeg combining for an all round intoxicating scent.  With the boozy top notes from the rum and ginger and a real pepperiness to finish, I’d say this is more of an evening whiff, ideal for a night spent sipping on cocktails and catching up with close friends.

Wear This With – A cashmere roll neck, tailored trousers and leather boots for a smart evening vibe.

Vert Fougere by Floris London

Vert Fougère Eau de Parfum from Floris is defined by a juxtaposition between dark green notes and smoky, velvety, woody accords.  A bittersweet blend of grapefruit, bergamot and neroli entwine with ginger and lavender for added freshness. Earthy patchouli and cedarwood give the fragrance a woody finish and for me this scent truly encapsulates everything that is positive about the autumn months.

Wear This With – A crisp white Oxford shirt, light-weight knit and chinos for a meeting appropriate outfit.

Sandalo by Acqua Di Parma

The best colognes pull scents from unexpected places and keep the nostrils forever intrigued.  Sandalo from Acqua Di Parma uses both sandalwood and bergamot to create a mellowed-out, autumn-appropriate scent that I find addictive whenever spritzed.  Ideal as an every day scent as we transition through to winter and the cold weather.

Wear This With –  A black merino knit, tailored trousers and a suede bomber jacket for the optimal middle ground between smart and casual.

Oud & Bergamot by Jo Malone

Spritz up with Oud & Bergamot by Jo Malone, combining the ultra powerful and autumnal smokiness of oud with the very zesty notes of bergamot.  This has been a ‘go-to’ scent of mine for the past few years for those all important, more dressed-up occasions.

Wear This With – A smart white shirt, double-breasted blazer and monk-strap shoes for the ultimate statement look.
