Hakkasan Mayfair is the more youthful sister of the original stalwart in Hanway place, which opened back in 2001 and has become synonymous with producing a highly consistent take on Chinese food in ultra-slick surroundings. No chicken’s feet to be seen here, just crowd-pleasing dishes, all very skilfully made and beautifully presented.
We chose from the Hakkasan Collection Menu at £90 per person featuring 6 main dishes with sides and a cocktail each, pricey but when considering the quality of the ingredients, well worthy of the investment for a special occasion.
Kicking things off with a plate of stunningly presented steamed dim sum featuring langoustine, swordfish and king crab – all were just downright delicious. This was followed by a crunchy and zesty duck salad with citrusy pomelo and pine nuts, a great way to cleanse the palate for the real showstoppers. For main, a holy triumvirate of dishes in the form of stir-fry rib eye beef, chicken satay and the star of the show, the grilled Chilean sea bass bathed in honey, just so bloody tasty. The side of buttery bokchoi made for the ideal sidekick and of course a mandatory sticky jasmine rice.
