What To Wear On The Beach This Summer

When it comes to Summer holidays, we all know the importance of planning ahead.  Nobody wants to be frantically searching for last-minute deals at the busiest time of year, which is why we tend to have our affairs in order weeks, if not months, in advance.  If only we showed the same foresight when it came to the contents of our suitcases.  For me, it is little wonder so many men who manage to look so presentable in their day-to-day lives seem to lose the plot as soon as they foot on foreign soil (and particularly sand!)

However you enjoy spending your time on the beach, there’s no excuse not to do it in style.  Here’s my favourite swim shorts this season, fit for any size or shape:

Short Shorts:

I must admit it took me a while to come onboard with wearing these short shorts, it can be quite nerve wracking given how revealing they feel, but they simply cannot be beaten when it comes to tanning and are surprisingly comfortable.  They are easy to pack and take up little room, so they are a great back up option and should be a staple piece in your beach bag.

I’m particularly fond of rocking these underneath a pair of shorts or tailored swimmers, then when the time comes to strip down, you are raring to go!

 The Tailored Swimmer:

Forever a firm holiday favourite, the tailored swimmer never looks out of place and is fit for almost any occasion.  Whether worn on their own as a statement pair or paired with a sun-bleached polo or linen shirt, the tailored swim short will help you stand out from that crowd.

Orlebar Brown are always my ‘go-to’ when it comes to tailored swimmers and in my opinion there’s not a swim short on the market that dries as quickly, making these my preferred choice if I’m off to the beach for lunch.  You can quite literally walk from the sea to the taverna and the shorts will be dry within a matter of minutes.

Consider a patterned pair for some added outfit detail and to make a real statement on the beach this Summer.

Laid Back Elastic:

Every holiday calls for an ultra comfortable pair of swimmers and whether you’ve had one too many cheese pies at lunch or are looking for a snooze in the sun, a pair with an elasticated waist will always tick the box.

Look for a seersucker pair like these for a nice extra bit of detailing.

The Hybrid:

A new entry to my swimwear wardrobe this season, these ‘hybrid’ shorts are the perfect in-between for those of you that find a tailored short too restricting and an elasticated too relaxed.  I particularly like the design detailing around the waist and there’s the nice added touch of an internal rubber grip along the waistline, which helps keep the short in place and adds to the comfortable feel.

Consider investing in a navy pair, it’s a colour that will work well with pretty much any other colour and always looks smart.
